I currently have a very disorganized drawer in my kitchen
dedicated to all the wonderful recipes that I have either written down, printed
out, photocopied or ripped out of magazines. Worse yet, I have dozens more
bookmarked on my computer, all still waiting to see the light of my kitchen lol.
And then there are the recipes I remember from my childhood, the recipes that
only come out to play during holidays and special occasions, the recipes I made
as a newlywed and new mom years ago - recipes I want to remember, collect,
continue to make and, of course, pass on to my own children.
Your challenge for this spotlight is to get started on putting
together your very own personalized family recipe book or collection. Some of
the recipes you choose to scrap might be new and represent changes you are
making in your lifestyle, while others might be those you and your family have
enjoyed and shared for years. Many of the recipes will inspire a story or memory
that can be told alongside the recipe, while other recipes might have been lost
or forgotten, but the memory and photos remain worthy of a layout.
A Dash of Inspiration
Any and all recipes are fair game in this challenge, the more
the merrier!! But for those looking to include layouts that focus on making
connections between a recipe and memories or stories of loved ones, here are a
few ideas to inspire you:
1) Recipe + Biography
recipe to a person in your life - someone who is "famous" for preparing that
recipe or someone who loves that recipe best. Scrap the recipe, but also include
a biography of this person and how this recipe celebrates or reflects who that
person is and their role in your life.
2) Recipe + Childhood
recipe to the time when you were a child or teenager. Scrap a memory (or
memories) that this recipe inspires from that time period.
3) Recipe Constructed
inspiration is not a traditional "food" recipe - think about a favorite activity
you do yourself or with your family (past or present) and construct a "recipe"
of "ingredients" that make this activity special or unique. A few examples -
family movie night (ingredients: blankets, pillows, pjs, popcorn), visiting the
beach (ingredients: towels, beach toys, sunburns, snacks), getting ready for 1st
day back to school (backpacks, bus, lunch bags, hugs, tears). Write this up in
recipe format (ingredients, directions, serves)!
4) Recipe + Culture
recipe to the country you live in (or lived in the past) or your cultural or
religious background. Scrap the who, what, when & where of how this recipe
helps you celebrate this part of your life.
5) Recipe +
Connect a recipe to a favorite holiday
(Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving) or occasion (birthday, anniversaries,
showers), celebrated in the past or present, and scrap about how this recipe
helps you celebrate this wonderful time!
